Games where you are a mouse/rat character.

Main Post:

I love media with rat/mouse people like Redwall and was wondering what games you can play as a mouse. I already know Ghost of a Tale, Tooth and Tale, Small Saga (check it out seriously) and another that Iron Pineapple covered. Don’t have VR so can’t play Moss. Please help I need mice.

Top Comment: Only two that spring to mind are Backpack Hero which has the first character as a rat and Ratopia which is Oxygen Not Included but with rats. Also a massive technical with Touhou 19 as Nazrin is playable.

Anybody have any good "Mouse Only" games?

Main Post:

Not talking about card, chess, backgammon or gambling games.
Games that you can just sit back and relax while clicking a mouse.

Right now my main games are ESPN Baseball, 8-Ball Pool and a Puzzle site.

Gaming mice for FPS: What makes a mouse better than another?

Main Post:

I always thought the choice of mouse had no effect on performance in FPS. I proved myself entirely wrong this week after upgrading to the Corsair Vengeance M65 ($50 Amazon) from my aging Logitech G5.

The performance increase was utterly confounding. Running the sensor at 7000 DPI (max 8200) and using the same old and dirty mouse pad I've always had, I am now landing shots in CS:GO that I could never pull off a week ago. I honestly have no idea how to explain this.

So what makes a mouse a good mouse? Is it DPI, weight, comfort, texture, number of buttons, or something else? What mouse do you think is best for certain games and why?

Edit: Based on suggestions, I've changed to 6/11 windows sensitivity, 1800 DPI. Will see how it works out.

Top Comment: A side note on gaming mice. They work particularity well for graphic designers since you can map lots of keys.

Top 5 ultimate mice for FPS Games?

Main Post:

Just the best that you can get on the market right now. I’ve been doing some research and can’t come to a conclusion, what do you guys think?

Thanks

Top Comment: Razer Viper V2 Pro Razer Deathadder V3 Pro Logitech GProX Superlight FinalMouse Starlight 12 (if you can get one without qc issues, good luck) IDK for number 5. Any mouse from the zowie C series, any Vaxee mouse, or the Endgame gear XM1r. That would probably be my list for the best fps mice currently available without caring about price.

Why do certain mice feel "smoother" in game vs others? My experience with g303 Shroud vs. Endgame XM1r

Main Post:

I recently went on a mouse buying spree to find my new main. I've noticed that with the g303 shroud edition, my crosshair feels smoother, snappier, and almost faster in game (valorant). Almost as if I've increased my sensitivity slightly. With other mice like the Endgame XM1r, I don't get that sensation.

Both mice run at the same DPI and polling rate (800 and 1000hz, respectively), so what else could be impacting this? I don't like the Shroud shape, but I'd like to replicate that smoother feeling. Could it be the quality of the sensor? The mouse feet (I don't think it's this)?

Top Comment:

Not sure if you are talking about this but different sensors will "feel" differently at same settings, even if just slightly and even if their implementation is perfect (in this case Hero vs Pixart).

Why don't games support gaming mice?

Main Post:

This is something that has always confused me, why don't games support gaming mice?

Now, I don't mean rgb integration or the side buttons, I mean the main draw of a gaming mouse, it's high DPI.

Now, anyone familiar with configuring a mouse will know that higher DPI and then reducing in-game sensitivity is better than high in-game and low DPI. As such, it makes logical sense to get a high DPI mouse if you are serious about aiming. But this is where the problem comes in.

Games, do not support high DPI settings, despite being the media that benefits the most from high DPI. This is especially true for games that do not allow multiple decimal points or sensitivities below 1.

Often times I load up a game, a little bit of wind hits the mouse, and it does 419 complete 360's. So I go to options, lower the sensitivity to it's minimum, but now the gentle nudge will do 203 complete 360's, which is still impossible to use. It's always a massive pain to load up a sensitivity converter only to find that I need to somehow input a negative value to get my sens.

It's not like I have a high sensitivity either, my cm per 360 is 14.43. Or 3.6 sensitivity at 800 DPI in any source engine game. (Which translates down to 0.24 at my 12,000 DPI).

My mouse can go up to 25,600 DPI, but like, if the games aren't going to support above 800, what's the point? What's the point of any gaming mice if gams won't support it? The extra buttons get wasted on being dpi toggle switches, because when you put it on 800 for a game, you have to toggle it for the menus.

Top Comment:

Compatibility is why ~1000dpi is the norm. Most mice that do not feature DPI adjustment are around ~1000 and until there is another standard, it will stay that way.

Kliksphilip went and did a video about it :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XNUp70mDlQ

He found out that high DPI + low sensitivity is better.

So yeah, most games sensitivity setting sucks ass.

What gaming mouse should I use for FPS games?

Main Post:

For context, I’m a Rainbow 6 player and I sometimes play CS2.

Last night I somehow broke my scrollwheel?? On my 7 yo Rival 3 and I think it’s the time to maybe change it. I’m a bit skeptical about wireless mice because I heard that after the 1 year mark they tend to have connectivity problems. I understand that there can’t be the perfect mice without a issue but I want it to last at least 2 years:))

I was looking at Superlight 2 but it’s a bit pricey here

G502 X plus

DeathAdder V3 Pro

Or just go back to my old Rival 3:))

Top Comment: I have a superlight and it is perfect. From personal experience I don‘t recommend the zowie ec‘s. I had 2 and they both randomly broke on me after 6 months or so.

What's the benefit to buying a gaming keyboard and mouse?

Main Post:

So I assume they're supposedly better but what it is it that makes them better? This is my first time building a PC and my neighbor insists that I buy a gaming PC and mouse. I keep telling him that I already have a mouse but he keeps saying that it'll lag, I haven't noticed any lag on my wireless mouse but he keeps trying to convince me there's a lag and apparently I need a mechanical gaming keyboard so I'm looking on Amazon for something nice that's not expensive. Are there any drawbacks to any of these things?

Top Comment: I like wired mice just for the fact that they won't get low batteries in the middle of a game and start sending me notifications about it. Back when I played league, having your mouse battery go out mid game would be a death sentence. Having a few extra buttons on it is also nice for hotkeying items/abilities, and the same can be said for a gaming keyboard. You can also set up macros on most gaming keyboards to execute keystrokes in a specific order, but that can also be done with software. Overall I'd say yes 100% a mouse and maybe a keyboard if you find one you like.

I analyzed the 25 most recommended gaming mice on Reddit

Main Post:

I’m doing some analysis on reddit data and looked at the most recommended gaming mice in the past year. Thought I’d share the results here since people ask about gaming mouse sometimes. Obviously not a replacement for more rigorous reviews sites like https://www.rtings.com/ but I thought this could be helpful / interesting anyway since this crowdsourced approach helps paint a picture of which are the most popular, most tried and tested ones.

Methodology: I searched reddit for discussions on gaming mice across all subreddits (a lot of the opinions came from r/MouseReview though). I scoped the search to posts made within the past year for freshness. I found 536 relevant threads and used LLMs to analyze, extract, and categorize opinions from the 19,081 comments. I also extracted info about the gaming mice being referred to and used that info to lookup the models on Amazon. Unfortunately for now the list only shows models available on Amazon (for simplicity’s sake). I then sorted the models by number of users with positive sentiment.

Caveat: Handling and merging different descriptions, models, abbreviations etc is non trivial, so the its not 100% accurate. It seems to be mostly right from eyeballing though? Figuring out how to distinguish if the user is referring to the wireless or wired version, or whether it matters is tricky too. Hopefully i’ve done it in a way that gives fair enough credit to each model.

Let me know if you spot anything wrong. Or anything surprising.

Top Comment: Personal opinion. I think there is substantial amount of sub fifty dollar mice that are more than adequate for most people's use for gaming. As soon as you hit that $100 plus price point. They're so many good mice out there that it just seems almost ridiculous to go with a name brand mouse. Ten years ago, the mouse market was ridiculously small. Now. If you know your preferred grip and understand how to measure your hand. There's basically a mouse tailored for you.
